I-Bonds & T-Bills yearly limits
Hi Terry, I bought $10,000 in I-Bonds in May, 2022. That is my maximum allowable amount for 2022.
I want to buy some T-bills now, maybe $10,000. Can I do that? Can I buy those T-bills in 2022, or have I reached my limit for 2022 with the I-bonds? Are the I-bonds and T-bills considered separate entities, or are they linked together somehow so that maximum for both is $10,000 total for one year? I navigated Treasurydirect.gov and also looked around internet, and can’t seem to find the answer, so asking for your help. Thanks.
Terry Says
I-bonds and Treasury bills are completely separate in that regard. Yes, you can only purchase $10,000 of I-bonds in a calendar year. But you could purchase MILLIONS in Treasury bills in that same TreasuryDirect account! No limit on T-bill purchases. Enjoy!
