Estate and retirement financial planner vs. trust/ will attorney
Hello Terry! my wife and I are finally planning to get wills, trusts, and estate planning started. Is it fair to say that we should see an attorney for wills and trusts – and seek a separate financial planner for all estate planning? Can a financial planner do all- so we can “ one stop shop”? We’re not clear on the best process or which advisor to consult first. Thank you for your time!
Terry Says
Glad you’re getting started. But these are two separate roles — although if you get the right financial advisor and separate attorney they will likely be in contact with each other.
So start with the estate planning attorney (not one of those do-it-yourself kits!).
Watch this short video I made to explain the process:

Ask your bank for a recommendation or go to www.search-attorneys.com, the website of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys.
But maybe first you’d want to find a FIDUCIARY, fee-only, financial planner to discuss your situation. You can find one you can trust here. In fact, he or she might already have a trusted relationship with an estate planning attorney. That would make things even simpler.
