Unknown purchase price of stock
Hi Terry,
I bought my girls stock over 20 years ago. I had the paper certificates and they are now held in their Fidelity Accounts. When they go to sell, I don’t know the date or price it was purchased and am unsure how to handle the taxes etc. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thank you!

Go to www.CNBC.com and insert the stock symbol. You’ll get an individual report — and there will be a chart. Click on the chart to make it go back 20years. Then get the price range for the stock on the date on the stock certificate. Do a screen shot, and print it out. That will suffice to establish the approximate cost for capital gains purposes.
Other websites also offer stock charts, including Yahoo.com and BigCharts.com. But the CNBC charts have a “slider” that gives you the exact price for every date — much easier to use!
