Adviser performance?

By Terry Savage on October 24, 2024 | Financial Planning / Retirement

Terry
I currently have my portfolio managed by Fisher Investments. I am thinking of changing companies. On your advice, I went to Wealthramp.com. I have had a conversation with one of the adviser’s matched to profile I filled out. How can I check out the performance of this adviser independently from what they tell me. I’m thinking of changing because I feel Fisher is kind of expensive and my contact there just seems to want to sell me other services that they offer.
Personally, I recently turned 66 years old, I own my own business which I plan to sell in a couple of years and not collecting Social Security until I’m 70 years old.

It sounds like you’re on the right track. As for past performance, any comparisons would depend on how their other clients are invested! They are not running a mutual fund or a hedge fund, but designing portfolios that are based on client needs and risk tolerance. So there’s no real way of comparing.

I can promise you that they wouldn’t be among Pam’s advisors if they weren’t honest and doing a great job. That said, past performance is no guarantee of future results. Especially when it comes to stocks. EVERYONE should look great now — as we are near all-time market highs. And everyone will get hit to some extent when we have a bear market. And we will have one — I just don’t know when!!

Your portfolio should be designed to minimize losses on the downside, depending on your time horizon. And investment performance is only part of the process. You’ll also want tax planning, income planning, insurance planning and other strategic thinking about your retirement.
