I took Social Security Part A at 65
Terry,
I am now 68 and still working I was told by many that I should take Part A at 65 regardless of working or not. Now I hear that penalities will occur. Is that true?
Terry Says
There are no penalties for taking — or not taking – Medicare Part A at 65, as long as you have coverage from work. The one reason NOT to do that is that you can no longer contribute to an HSA (Health Savings Account) once you sign up for Medicare. But everyone should ask their employer if (becaUse it is a small business) if Medicare Part A is required by the company insurance plan. That may happen if the company has fewer than 20 employees.
When you retire, you should immediately sign up for Part B and a Supplement and Part D (drugs)– even if you have NO prescriptions at that time.
