Doing a Roth Conversion in an up or down market
Is it a better time to do a Roth conversion when the stock market is up or down ? Or does it not matter?

Oh, it sure does! YOu’re going to pay ordinary income taxes on all the money that is converted. Wouldn’t you hate to do that — taking money out when the market is high — then watching it fall dramatically in a bear market?!
You want to do the conversion when the market is down, and you pay the least taxes. Nobody has a crystal ball on that score. But please read this recent column on getting personalized Roth Conversion advice:
