Retired School administrator & social security
As a retired school administrator, I receive benefit payments monthly from my Teachers retirement . According to Biden’s Social Security Fairness Act, I am now entitled to receive Social Security benefits. I had enough credits in before becoming a teacher. My question is, why am I receiving 2 different payments each month from Social Security? My husband is still alive and also receives social security benefits. I signed up for Social Security when I was eligible and received a whopping $55 after they took out for Medicare. I am now 74. I would like to assume that SS knows what they are doing, however, my question is still, why am I receiving two checks monthly? I watch you all the time on Channel 9! Love it!

You might have received two checks this past month, as part of the “catch up” provision of the Social Security Fairness Act. They are sending out the benefits difference for all of last year, since that law was made retroactive.
In the future, you should receive one larger check every month — maybe even enough to give you more money after the Medicare deduction.
If you are still receiving two checks, please write back. But I would NOT advise trying to contact SS since they are now such a mess.
