When to take one’s RMD
Hi Terry, given the financial situation, the markets, etc., in our country at the moment would you advise someone to take their RMDs now or wait.
Many thanks,
Terry Says
You can take the RMD at any time of the year -=- preferably before November, when things get crowded at mutual fund companies. BUT — the real question is whether you should have the money sitting in cash, so you can take it now, or monthly, or before year-end.
Given my outlook on the economy and the markets (read my recent columns), I would have TWO years of RMDs, sitting in cash in my IRA. Don’t want to be forced to sell to take an RMD near the end of the year — when the crowd is rushing to do the same thing!
