Ask Terry Questions inheritance financial records

inheritance financial records

How long should I hold on to my deceased relative’s financial records? All value from those documents has been recovered by the Wills’ beneficiary. There was a Will. Attorney hired. Letters of Office were acquired. Heir search et al. How long should I hold on to my deceased relative’s financial records? Thank you.

But was the estate closed? All proceeds delivered to the beneficiaries? No beneficiaries that were “lost” or might come forward?? All accounts closed out?

I’d keep the paperwork for five years — if you have the space. (But you asked the wrong person, because I keep financial paperwork forever!) Just put them in a storage box, clearly labeled.
