Ask Terry Questions 401k transfer

401k transfer

By Terry Savage on March 24, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I am changing jobs. My new employer has a 90 waiting period before I can participate in the their 401k. I thought i heard you have 60 days to invest it. What should I do with my 401k from my previous employer?

Terry Says

You should roll it over to an IRA. REad this: https://www.terrysavage.com/rollover-now/

And it’s not unusual for an employer to have a waiting period to join the 40l(k) plan. They don’t want to get you set up if it isn’t going to work out for you on the job. But ask the HR department how you can contribute the maximum to get the match.
