IRS amended return H&R Blocks mistake
This is a follow up to my previous query. I contacted H&R Block and eventually spoke to a office manager for the district. After he listened to the issue, he offered a refund of my tax preparation fees.
I contacted the IRS and learned that my amended return was received. Processing could take 16 weeks. When I explained that I really should not owe but was entitled to a refund, the associate offered no options.
A few days later I contacted the IRS Tax associate service. She reported that my return was being processed and not to worry about the CP14 I received. She assured me that the principle and interest charges would be removed once the return was finalized.
I have carefully documented who I have discussed this with and what I was told.
Long story short, the IRS was easier to deal with than H&R Block! And I very much appreciate your advice on this. It lead me to the right direction. Thank you!

Whew — I’m glad things are proceeding in the right direction. As I recall this was an actual MISTAKE by H&R Block in filing your taxes. No doubt about it.. Did you get that offer to refund your tax prep fees in writing? Make sure you do so, and keep the refund check.
Then you need to escalate this higher in the HRB management chain! District or regional manager! You should make this an “open issue” with them and not settle it by depositing the refund check — until you know that the IRS is actually giving you the well-deserved refund!
Thanks for the update and keep me posted.
