IRS not responding

By Terry Savage on June 28, 2021 | Wild Card

Sort of dumbfounded reading today’s column on the IRS with your pom-poms a’shaking. We are waiting for our 2019 refund (filed 4/2020), we did receive a small mystery deposit, no notice, but press indicating probability of “interest”…..websites worthless, phones -don’t call us, my congress woman stymied, press still indicating “trailers full of 2019 returns being ignored”. Filed 2020 (4/2021) with the recommended return receipt requested…..nothing back there. I would just as soon any money they are doling out on these brilliant auxiliaries be used for staffing FIRST yet no one mentions such a thing. Please don’t champion the horrible job they are doing, it’s very unbecoming.

Thanks for your comment. I can’t help praise the IRS in comparison to the Illinois Unemployment people! At least you know the IRS will eventually get around to helping you and get it correct when they do!

As for that small mystery deposit, several people mentioned that recently on a radio show — and then found out that the VA is refunding co-payments for services charged during the pandemic. All were small deposits, odd amounts. Could that be the reason for the deposit?

The IRS has “mostly” finished with 2019 returns. I think it’s time to use the link in that column to check “Where’s my Refund”? And if you don’t get it by Labor Day, it would definitely be time to file a “missing” report on it. But give it another 8 weeks. It’s like waiting for your luggage to come off the carousel at the airport: someone’s suitcase has to be last!
