It’s about my kids stillment check

By Terry Savage on June 01, 2021 | Wild Card

I have three boys someone had claimed my boys on their taxes and I didn’t know it I was in the hospital at the time I’ve had both of my legs amputated did not know what happened about their checks and I’m wanting to know can I file for a lost check if I did not file taxes for this year or last year I’m going to fix them cuz I’m disabled I do not file taxes but I want to know if they still qualify to get the check

Terry Says

Wow that is tough. Do you know who claimed your children as dependents on their taxes? Was it your ex-spouse or boyfriend. Did that person pay more than 50% of their support?
If not, he or she committed tax fraud and you can report it to the IRS. And you should tell them you are going to do that unless they repay the money to you.

AND, you should get help filing a free tax return to claim your own stimulus and theirs – even if you have very low income. Many social serviced agencies can still help you file a 2020 return with no penalty– and claim those stimulus payments on Line 30 — for yourself and for your children. That will alert the IRS that someone used their SS numbers TWICE. And they will start an investigation.

As a last resort, you can call the IRS Ombudsman office at 1-877-777-4778.
