Medicare and HSA account

By Terry Savage on March 06, 2024 | Insurance & Annuities

We heard you say today on WGN Morning News that if my husband signed up for Medicare Part A at age 65, which he did (thinking it was mandatory, to be ready for the future), he can’t contribute to a HSA. However, he’s been using his HSA as usual ever since. He is 70 now, and still working. Can you advise? Thanks for your excellent wisdom over the years!

Terry Says

He can withdraw from HSA but cannot continue to contribute.
Is he still working? He should ask the HR department of his company. I doubt they would let him contribute to an HSA under these circumstances.
Are you sure it is a Health Savings Account that he is contributing to???
