Ask Terry Questions Medicare part B

Medicare part B

By Terry Savage on November 16, 2023 | Insurance & Annuities

Hi Terry,
I’m 65.5y old, and still working. Signed for part A, but not part B. Should I sign for part B, or when should I sign for it.
I’m planing to work one more year. I have very good insurance through my employer.

Terry Says

You are not required to sign up for Part B if you have comparable coverage from an employer– unless your company has fewer than 20 employees. So check with your company HR department as to whether they fall into that category.
Here’s the complete explanation from Medicare.gov.

You will need to sign up for Part B just before you retire, so you don’t have a gap in coverage. Since that may come during the year, loss of insurance allows you to sign up for Part B AND the best supplement, without waiting for Open Enrollment. Be sure to do that!
