Ask Terry Questions Parent Plus Loans

Parent Plus Loans

By Terry Savage on July 27, 2021 | College Savings / Student Loans

Hi,
I have parent plus loans totaling over $50,000.00. I don’t qualify for PSLF and I want to retire in the next few years. I am trying to get things in order to retire and this is a large monthly payment. What can I do?

Terry Says

There is almost nothing you can do! Parent Plus loans have the highest fixed rates and are the worst deal ever. I have been saying this for years.

Try refinancing at Credible.com. But the rates will still be high. If you own a home consider refinancing at today’s low rates to pay off that loan (The interest on the money used to pay down the loan won’t be deductible but you’ll pay a very low rate.)
