Is gold a good investment for one’s portfolio and if so coins or bars? I have a large safe.

Gold is a commodity that has a long history of offsetting the ravages of inflation. But at the moment you are giving up the possibility of earning 5% in Treasury bills if you store the gold in your safe. Not to mention that it would make you vulnerable in a home invasion!!
