Ask Terry Questions Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

By Terry Savage on March 23, 2025 | Financial Planning / Retirement

I just became 75 years old. I am employed full-time. I was told by my HR department that I didn’t have to take the RMD until I retired. Is this correct? Please advise.

If all you have is your 40l(k) or 403(b) from work (and no other IRAs) then you don’t have to take an RMD if you are still working for the company. Congratulations!!
But if you have an old IRA hanging around somewhere, be sure to take an RMD from that account– only based on the value of that account at the end of last year.
