S &P mutual fund
Am 77 years old. Have $5,000-10,000. Want to invest in an S&P mutual fund. Do not expect to need the funds for a couple of years. Any suggestions of low to medium funds?
Thanks

Wait. You need to understand more, and I can tell that from your question!
An S&P 500 mutual fund tracks the performance of the broad stock market. There are no “low to medium” funds! This type of fund reflects the ups and downs of the stock market. Period.
Now over at least 20 years, you should come out a winner. There has been no losing 20-year period in the last 100 years. But over the shorter term, you could run into a decade or more of lower prices, translating into losses on your investment.
So let me ask you: How much of this money –at your age — are you willing to lose??
If the answer is “nothing” then stick with CDs and money market funds.
