Social Security Benefit WEP/GPO
I am a retired Illinois teacher who is affected by the recent passing HR82. My husband passed away and never applied for SS. As a public teacher, I was told I wasn’t eligible for benefits (it would be double dipping). I do have my 40 quarters from non-government employee and until this year, only received 1/3 of my benefits. My question : Am I now eligible for (spousal) survivor benefits?

You are entitled to whichever is larger: your own unreduced benefit or your late spouse’s unreduced benefit.
