SS Fairness Act Payment Received, but not larger monthly check!

By Terry Savage on March 14, 2025 | Social Security

Terry- On John Williams WGN show (March 12, 2025) I texted a question to you, and John read it on air but had to go to commercial before you could respond. You must be exhausted, and frustrated trying to help everyone with a such a sad, chaotic situation the SS Admin. is in. My text was: On Jan.8th and Feb.12th 2025, I received my normal WEP reduced SS deposits. On Mar. 5th a deposit of $5641.00 from SS was placed in my account (no explanation via letter or e-mail) and I concluded it was what was owed to me from Jan. 2024 to Dec. 2024 per the SS Fairness Act. One week later I then received my scheduled benefit in the amount of the reduced WEP amount. I was under the impression that from Jan.2025 my benefit would have been corrected going forward (or at least from the catch-up payment). If the calculation was completed for the catch up surely one more entry would have taken care of it. With the mass firings of SS employees, I cringe at trying to get and answer from SS. So lucky you—,do you have any knowledge as to why my benefit is still reduced? And what steps should I be taking if there is to be a remedy?
My wife and I truly appreciate all your hard work on our behalf and the rest of the regular Americans.
(we try and listen to you each week)

Thanks for your note. You SHOULD have received the full — unreduced by WEP — benefit. May I suggest you wait one month to see if your next check is larger. Others have already started receiving the larger monthly benefit.

Please write back if yours is still reduced. But give them some time. It’s going to be tough to get through to them.
