Ask Terry Questions T Bill’s and Roth IRAs

T Bill’s and Roth IRAs

By Terry Savage on September 25, 2022 | Chicken Money

After watching your T bill piece on WGN I opened a Treasury direct account.
I bought T bills in mondays auction.
If I use my Schwab act to buy T bills in my Roth IRA will the interest be tax free?

Terry Says

First of all, the interest on Treasury bills is free from STATE tax, not federal tax.
But if you used the Schwab brokerage option to buy T-bills in your ROTH IRA, yes the earnings will be included in your Roth — and then when you take withdrawals, the money will come out tax-free.
Good move!!
