The three credit reporting services
On 9/16/24 I received letters confirming a freeze on my credit reports from Experian and Equifax.
Should I have also froze my report from TransUnion at the same time? Should I do it now?
My husband didn’t freeze anything. Recently he received a notice from TransUnion stating he was almost the victim of identity theft. Should he NOW put security freezes in all three credit freeze companies?
Also, in May 2013 of we sent in forms to remove our names from preapproved credit offer mailing lists. Is there recourse when this is ignored by certain companies? Or does it have to be refreshed after a certain period of time?
Thanks.

Everyone should freeze their credit at EACH of the three bureaus — unless you’re actively in the process of buying a new house, financing a car, applying for a job, or applying for life insurance. It costs nothing to freeze your credit — and you must remember your PIN so you can “unfreeze” if seeking credit for a new purchase.

AND, when you go to each of the three websites to freeze your credit, please READ the latest credit report, not just the score. Check for any unfamiliar accounts that might have been opened in your name. And check your bank and credit card balances weekly, online, from a secure internet connection (not at Starbucks!) to make sure there are no unauthorized charges.
