Widow’s dilemma on taxes
I am a widow so on the Income form, of course, I only have 1 dependent. Me. When my husband died, I continued to have the same income as I inherited his pension. But because i’m 1 person instead of 2 (with him), I have to pay IRMAA. But can I cancel Part D as I do not need it. My secondary insurance pay for my prescriptions. it’s an unnecessary expense. Please advise. I listen to you quite often on WGN. You’re amazing.

It’s strange but true. You have the same income, but only one person — and yes, that could make you subject to IRMAA — a higher monthly Medicare Part B premium.
Now, I don’t understand what other insurance you have that covers prescriptions?
Are you talking about a Medicare Advantage program that includes drug coverage? In that case, please check with your Advantage plan as to whether you need to maintain Part D.
I can’t imagine what other plan would cover drugs, and you definitely need to keep Part D if you are not on an advantage plan.
